Mid-Shore Pro Bono Teams-Up with the BBQ Joint to Host “BBQ for a Cause” Fundraiser

November 7, 2018

Mid-Shore Pro Bono (MSPB) is teaming-up with the BBQ Joint to host a fundraiser on Tuesday, November 13th from 11:00am – 8:00pm to support its new Child Advocacy Project.

10 percent of sales on November 13th will be donated to Mid-Shore Pro Bono’s Child Advocacy Project.

“We are grateful to Andrew Evans and the BBQ Joint for hosting this event to help us launch and support our new Child Advocacy Project,” said Sandy Brown, Mid-Shore Pro Bono Executive Director. “Opioid addiction has ravaged our rural community and we are doing everything we can to advocate for the safety and wellbeing of the children who are often the forgotten victims of this crisis.”

MSPB launched its new Child Advocacy Project in direct response to the rise in third-party custody cases related to the opioid epidemic. A third-party custody case is when a grandparent, aunt/uncle or other family member or neighbor seeks to gain custody of a minor child whose parents are unable to care for them. The rise of incarceration and deaths related to the opioid crisis has resulted in an 82% increase in third-party custody cases brought to Mid-Shore Pro Bono. The Child Advocacy Project provides the legal services needed to give these vulnerable children a safe and stable environment so that they can thrive and reach the full potential.
